Alligator at the Savannah Wildlife Refuge

Savannah Wildlife Refuge

If you are in between Hilton Head and Savannah and want to see wildlife, head over to Savannah Wildlife Preserve! Check it out: It’s still cold out but the sun was definitely shining. We saw a lot of gators! The last time we saw this many gators was gator land in Florida.

We also saw a beautiful blue heron hiding out in the marsh.

We saw a small snowy egret as well, but not pictured. And of course there was plenty of beautiful Spanish Moss everywhere.

There was an Anhinga perched on a tree. It typically likes to fan itself but we were not witness to this today.

The Wildlife Preserve is free. The refuge is open to hiking or biking. Cars are welcome year round on the Laurel Hill Wildlife Drive. This is off 170 on the South Carolina Highway. We did both the hike and the drive today. It was well worth it. They even have an Visitor center located on 694 Beech Hill Lane, Hardeeville, SC 29927.
